Origins

Under the guise filiopiety, fathers were accountable to their families. They had to be obeyed by everyone and respected even by their children and grandchildren.
Goryeo, a nation that ruled from 918 until 1392 CE and gave the world the Hangul Alphabet based upon the shapes that were created by the mouth when pronouncing. Additionally, the northern part of the peninsula was ruled by the Balhae kingdom, which the majority of historians do not consider to be a legitimate Korean state.
Following the Three Kingdoms arose the Proto-Three Kingdoms Period, or Several States Period. Baekje, the most powerful of these states, was weakened by the fall of Goguryeo (676 CE) leaving only its southern regions in Manchuria and the its western region around Hwanghae Bay. Eastern Buyeo as well as the Gaya confederacy, thrived for a time.
The Unified Silla Kingdom then emerged and the three kingdoms began to work together to expand their territories. In the end, Silla, with significant Chinese aid, conquered the other states and unified the peninsula in 935 CE.
As Korea enters a post-crisis era, its development paradigm seems to be changing. Those who are horrified by the huge costs of the old systems support a comprehensive program of liberalization of labor, capital and product markets. On the other hand, supporters of the old system attempt to protect it by promoting nationalist sentiments, and by stoking fears of job loss.
Policy and academic analysts are starkly divided as to the extent to which these two developments are driving Koreas shift towards an economic model that is radically different from the one of governance. This article reviews developments to date, by looking at five phases of Korea's political development including the illiberal democratic period (1945-60), democratic authoritarianism (1961-72), authoritarian exceptionalism (1972-87), democratic paternalism (1987-2001) and democratic participation (2002 to present). This article also identifies key factors that are shaping these processes.
Creationism in Korea
In South Korea, 26% of the population is Christian. Creationists have made strides in promoting their beliefs to this segment. A survey conducted in 2009 revealed that nearly three-quarters of respondents did not believe in the theory of evolution. Of the respondents, 41% stated that there was not enough scientific evidence to support evolution; 39% said the theory was in contradiction to their religious beliefs and 17% claimed it was difficult to grasp. This level of doubt is similar to that of the United States, where a majority of people do not believe that humans evolved from earlier species of life.
In the past, the anti-evolution campaign in Korea was primarily focused on teaching students and the introduction of Christ to them. An increase in interest in creation science began in 1980, with the inauguration of a four-day seminar during the World Evangelization Crusade in Seoul which featured Drs. Henry Morris and Duane Gish of ICR as the keynote speakers. This event drew a large audience of scientists, professors and church leaders.
The success of this event led to the founding of the Korea Association of Creation Research (KACR) on January 31st 1981. The event was extensively covered in the national press, including The Korea Times, Chosun Ilbo and The Korea Times.
KACR began publishing a monthly newsletter, CREATION, in which it covered its activities and also published articles on scientific evidence for creationism. It also translated several film strips and slides from ICR as well as a few books on creationism which were published outside of Korea. KACR members lectured throughout the country in churches and universities.

Wang Geon also introduced fundamental reforms, and strengthened the central government system. This marked the closing of the Three Kingdoms period. From then on, the Korean peninsula was under the control of the Goryeo Dynasty. In the Three Kingdoms period, Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla gradually grew to become powerful states in Manchuria and on the peninsula.
